junk mail from jesus?

i recieved the most random piece of mail today. not email, as you expect those to be random (why does everyone think i have a penis, and that it needs to be bigger?), but regular old walk-to-the-mailbox-and-get-it mail. generally, if its not bills or advertisements, the only mail i get is from people i know. but today i got this odd hand-addressed letter from some family in buxton. curiously, i opened the envelope hoping for something interesting. here's an exerpt of what i found:

"we are involved in a volunteer bible educational program... as volunteers, we like to share with others how to use the bible as a guideline in their lives... we would gladly try to answer any questions you may have, using the bible for the solution... modern critics say that the bible is unscientific and contradictory, that it is just a collection of myths. jesus, on the other hand, said: "your word is truth"... the evidence supports jesus rather than the critics... the facts show that the bible is historically truthful... we invite you to further investigate and see for yourselves that the bible is beneficial and is the best way of living."

what?

who are you, and why are you sending this to me? the letter was forwarded from my last address, and the sender obviously got it from the phone book (complete with spelling mistakes and all), so i can assume they have a lot of free time. i'm also wondering if everyone listed in the greater portland verizon phone book recieved this letter, or if i just won the random selection lottery that day.

it doesn't matter if i do or don't believe in god, the bible, or christian worship. that's not the point. the point is that these people are soliciting my "business" in the pattern of credit card companies, pizza franchises, and bmg music service. i do not like junk mail. i don't want any more.

i wonder what would happen if this mailing had been from some kind of pagan group. it probably would have made the news, with ignorant recipients griping about how witches and devil worshippers were harrassing them. think about it. and although they would sound like idiots about the devil part, i think they'd be right to complain. i don't want your religious campaign in my mailbox anymore than i want at&t to call me in the middle of dinner.

enough said.
