a lesson in procrastination
i have utterly amazed myself by my total and complete lack of work done today. i have been at work since 8:00am, and since school is currently in the middle of spring break, the office has been predictably dead. what a great opportunity to catch up on some reading, work on a paper, or begin some research for my seminar project. but do i take advantage of said opportunity? nope.
let me tell you about all of the things i chose to do instead:
* checked my email
* checked the discussion board for my history class
* submitted my time card
* checked email again
* minimal work-related tasks, including creating some simple flyers
* wasted time while posting flyers by wandering the halls aimlessly, hoping for something cool to read (a new free press maybe?) in order to waste further time
* surfed the career services website hoping to unearth my dream job. no such luck.
* checked email again
* chatted on aim for a bit, relaying gossip and exchanging amusing stories
* checked list of assignments to be completed over break; ordered them according to due date and priority level
* shuffled papers around in notebooks
* removed a book from bag, opened book, closed book, opened book again and placed sticky notes on selections that need to be read, closed book again and placed neatly on corner of desk
* called brianna
* went pee, choosing the 3rd floor restroom because it required the most walking distance from my office and hence the maximum time wasted
* checked email again
* ate some baby carrots
* researched the intricacies of do-it-yourself deck building
* spent time daydreaming about future deck and general landscaping plans
* checked aim away messages multiple times and talked with a few more people
* opened book; left open on desk to provide illusion of studiousness and productivity
* played with items on desk (stapler, tape, phone, etc) and rearranged in several more appealing yet less functional ways
* checked email again
i think you get the idea. and so here we are... its time to go home, and i have achieved nothing today. go me.
