go pee, grab a snack, and settle in for a long one...
our brand-spankin'-new living room furniture was delivered yesterday... we've been waiting for like 3 months, so it was really exciting. i've never had new furniture before, so I'm feeling pretty spoiled (as if the new house wasn't doing enough of that already). and I'm pretty psyched about having a red couch. it feels powerful or something. don't worry, its not like fire-engine or anything; i think its called "merlot"... its really quite striking, if i do say so myself. when we picked it out, the display model was in this silvery-grey color, so it was a pretty big stretch to imagine it in the red, so i was a little nervous it would come and i wouldn't like it. but its perfect! oh - and its velvet... not that scratchy upholstery fabric stuff. anyhow - way excited about that. but enough about my furnishings.
i just finished installing a display shelf in tara's room (got to use adam's new drill - won't he be jealous). the shelf is for her already-impressive collection of pez dispensers; she's only 3, folks, and clearly destined for greatness.
so i have a baby shower to go to this afternoon for my boss. i don't know her that well (she's actually my boss's boss) but for some reason i got sucked into helping plan this thing. essentially, my boss asked if i wanted to help plan it, which sounded like fun and i figured it would be pretty minimal (we have office parties kind of a lot, actually, and its always pretty casual). it ended up being a little more work than i'd planned, but thats fine. however, my boss kind of assumed that i would be coming in an hour before the shower to decorate because she won't be able to do it. again, thats fine. however - i will have brianna and tara with me - so it could get interesting. then i had to find a gift... she is having a girl, but she also has a 3 year old girl, so there isn't a whole lot she needs... so i wanted to think of something unique that she could actually use. i came up with getting her a membership plan at sears portrait studio (its good for the whole family, not just the baby - and with two young kids, its something she'll use)... anyway, i thought of that, and fell in love with the idea so when i went in to check it out, i was compelled to buy it even though it was a lot more than i had planned on spending. THEN... i became inspired to make these little candies for the shower (they're SO cute... little rattles and diaper pins and rocking horses, etc in pastel colors); so i was up until midnight last night making them (which isn't so late, except i had to be leaving my house by 5 this morning). now why did i do this, you might ask... i have NO freaking idea. i have a serious problem with having no idea when to say enough's enough. i get an idea and that's that - i'm already committed. argh. anyway, the point of this ridiculously long diatribe is that once again i took a something simple and made it far more intensive than it needed to be. adam teases me about my perfectionistic tendencies, and i'm beginning to think he's onto something...
ah, well, on with my day... tara's been waiting patiently to begin her teaparty, so duty calls! 8:54 AM //
